Columbus Day

We had a wonderful field trip today.

We made the big trek to Chattanooga, TN
to see the replicas of the Nina and the Pinta
(and I think I need JP to tell me how to get ~ on top of my n).
The ships were really interesting--and they are SHIPS,
you know. I called one of them a boat and the tour guide
promptly corrected me. They are ships, not boats.

It is always so interesting to me to see things "as they were."
Here's what I have gathered from most experiences
like that: everything was smaller in the good old days.
Or at least smaller than I imagine it to be.
One of these ships was made 50% larger than scale
because making it to scale was just so small.
Almost impractical.

And I didn't know that
Christopher Columbus was six foot tall.

I was very impressed with my little students.

They were very well behaved,
as were the other kids in our group.
Our guide noticed this and
thanked them for their behavior.

Last night and this morning I felt so bad that
the last thing in the world I wanted to do was go on
this little jaunt. But we went...and I am very
glad we did. I felt better as the day
went on and we all just had
a really good time.
It was a good day.

The ñ is made by holding down ALT and typing 164...degree sign is ALT 0176...my favorite is ¿ (ALT 168)I think it's so cool that they put question marks before and after sentences that are questions. No wonder they have such great voice inflection.
Cool field trip!
