Baby J was just a couple of days old
when I was sitting on the couch nursing him.
Lloyd Dobbler was in the same room, watching TV or
something. He turned to me at one point and said,
"Are you singing an Aerosmith song to our baby?"
And it turns out, I was.
"Take me to the other side...."
Because when you're nursing a baby.....there are two sides.......
I'm always singing to these children of mine.
Another group I have already exposed
this tiny person to is Cheap Trick.
Sigh. I know.
I should be singing hymns and playing Mozart.
I do that stuff too.
But these other songs
just come pouring out sometimes.
I change the object of the Cheap Trick song.
See if you recognize it.
Most often it seems to be the "pap" (pacifier)
that I am singing this song about:
"If you want your pap, you got it.
If you need your pap, you got it.
I won't hide it.
I won't throw your pap awaaaaaaaaaay.
Ooooooh."
(it's very important to get that "ooooooh" at the end
and really hit the high note with it)
Big E has a song from the musical Guys and Dolls that is "his" song; but then he also has an altered blue grass/folky classic that tells the tale of how hard it was to wake him up to feed him as a baby. Sweet T has a jingle that I've sung to him since Day #1 to the tune of the Mr. Clean commercial. Lovely K has an original work as her main theme from her baby days. She also has "Brown Eyed Girl" and her father had her convinced at a young age that "Hey, Good Lookin'" by Hank Williams was HER song. She heard it playing at Cracker Barrel once years ago and wanted to know how in the world they had a copy of HER song.
Right now the only song that has been repeated that I can think of for Baby J is actually just a Mother Goose rhyme. We'll see what song sticks to him as the days unfold.
Don't worry.
I don't think it's going to be Aerosmith.
