Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

Have you seen the movie
"What About Bob?" with Bill Murray?

This is one of those movies that various members
of my family quote in many situations.
Does your family do that?
We have lines from so many movies and shows
(like The Andy Griffith Show or Family Ties)
that we just mix into real life.
Just the other day Lloyd Dobbler heard
something while The Andy Griffith Show was on and
he was like "Oh my goodness! That's where
that comes from. Your dad and brothers

always say that and I never got it."
Well, now he knows.

So my family has so many of those things.
They probably aren't funny to anyone else,
but they always crack us up.
And that's all that matters, right?

And "What About Bob?" is one of those sources.

(...and I might add here that I had to overcome
a bad experience to like
"What About Bob?"
While I love Bill Murray,
I was on one of my
top five worst dates ever
when I saw "What About Bob?"
for the first time.
Oh my word.
I can hear that guy now saying over and over
"What About Bell?!?"

during that evening and thinking that was so funny.
It wasn't. And he wasn't.
I could have done that Three Stooges thing to him
where they poke you in both eyes at once.
He was just not my kind of person.
That happens sometimes.
Didn't you ever go out with someone and think that
any minute they were going to pluck a hair from your head
and use it to floss their teeth?
But I got over that bad experience
and came to love that movie
along with the rest of my family.....)

So anyway....I said all that just to reference
the movie "What About Bob?" and now you are wondering
why you even clicked on this blog today.
I'll try to do better.

What I was thinking of was the part in the movie where
Bob (Bill Murray) says that there are two kinds of people
in the world: those who love Neil Diamond,
and those who hate him.
I find that true about so many things in life.
There are a vast number of things that people either LOVE
or HATE with no in between.
And I was thinking
today that one of those "things" is John Lennon.
People seem to either love or hate him.
Why was I even thinking about John Lennon?
Well, I've been listening to his "Beautiful Boy"
over there on the juke box.
Have you been listening to it?
And my soul! It's being sung there by Celine Dion
---talk about either LOVE or HATE.
Which side of the fence are you on with her?

Anyway.....I am loving the "Beautiful Boy" song right now.
I bet you can guess why.

By the way, my newest beautiful boy is adjusting
just beautifully to life here. The last two nights have
just been me and him and he's doing good about eating
and going back to sleep.
I have nothing to complain about.
Also, I haven't taken the pain
medications in a few days
(remind me to sing the praises of pain meds to
you some other time).
Things are going well.
I still have two weeks and one day before I am
supposed to lift anything that weighs more than Baby J.
And I haven't driven yet.
But I am doing a little more each day.
Not that there's a lot to do with my MIL here.
Lovely K and Big E haven't had their chores to do
since she got her (Dec. 5th) because she just does them
before I have a chance to tell the kids to do them.
So we've all had a nice break.
And I know my MIL would eventually like to return
to her own life and home and stop slaving away here for us.
I keep thinking that reality is going to hit hard when she leaves. Here I'll be thinking that I'm doing so well, but then I'll realize that it only seemed that way because I wasn't having to deal with so many things---like laundry or the majority of the kitchen stuff or any of the cleaning.
She's done all of that.
But I've got to get my slow moving end in gear here
and start taking back more of the jobs.
I've got to get back in charge of my life.

Right now what I've got to do is get in the bed and see if I can't get
an hour or two of sleep before the first time my
beautiful-beautiful-beautiful-beautiful boy
gets up.

I hope you are off to a good start to this lovely new year.
